ieet Technology Education Certification
As of 2005, the fiftieth anniversary of Chung Yuan Christian University, College of Engineering has nine departments, which are chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, biomedical engineering, electronic engineering, information and computer engineering, electrical engineering, bioenvironmental engineering, and 5722 undergraduates and 1174 graduate students. With almost 6900 student population, it was an engineering institute with respectful history and comprehensive scope.
In view of the increasing numbers of university and college, currently there are more than 160 of them; with quite a few vocational schools are highly interested to apply for the system change, the number will reach 180 in the future. Due to large amount of investment in College of Engineering departments, it is necessary to demand high professional quality of the graduates. Under the circumstances, department evaluation becomes an unavoidable process to prevent uneven quality in the workforce. In addition, R.O.C. has become a member of World Trade Organization (WTO) and involves in more and more international activities. Engineering education needs to be connected with the pulse of global and international standard and accepts its evaluation and certification so that engineering graduates will be globally competitive and thus profit the entire industry and the whole country. Therefore, it is imperative to work on the [Engineering Technology Education International Certification].
In the evaluation and certification plans, College of Engineering has accepted R.O.C. version of certification criteria AC2004 developed by International Engineering and Technological Education Certification Team, an associate of Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET), which is also evaluated and recognized by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); it begins to implement a comprehensive and complete engineering education evaluation and file certification request to Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET). In order to achieve better teaching quality of College of Engineering and become a globally recognized fine university, we hope to meet every certification criterion and pass the certification of Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan.
In addition, the participating departments, graduate schools and faculty staff also join conferences domestically and internationally with reference to the engineering certification so as to understand the latest information for a comprehensive result of this program. College of Engineering also has the opportunity to collect information regarding academic evaluation and certification to develop a program suitable for our university. They also start every department’s evaluation to understand the situation in terms of teaching and academic performance and the things need to be improved for proposing a practical polished program.
The Chancellor Shen-Kan Hsiung and the dean of Research and Development Chih-Yuan Guh have expressed university’s support of “Engineering Technology Education International Certification.” Therefore, this program has smoothly and comprehensively completed by the joint efforts of the university, College of Engineering, and departments and has developed an evaluation and certification method by combining valuable experience and information domestically and internationally.
Now, in 2010, our department completed an authentication cycle, enters the second authentication cycle. The Chancellor Wan-Lee Cheng, the dean of Research and Development Jan-Yan Lin, the dean of college of Electrical Engineeringand Computer Science Ying-Yi Hong all express to continuously support the second authentication cycle. In the past six year, our department has made a lot of improvements to conform to certification criteria AC2010.
In this semester year, our main efforts are below:
- 1. Continue to solicit the prominent teacher and to attract the outstanding student to enter our department.
- 2. Continue to renew the teaching equipment and provide ideal learning environment for students.
- 3. Continue to hold the project exhibition activity ervy year to help the students to combine the theory and the implementation.
- 4. Encourage the students to participate in the domestic and foreign project competitions.
- 5. Encourage the teachers to participate in the domestic and foreign academic activities.
- 6. Strive to obtain teaching and research projects.
- 7. Link positively with the industry and encourage the teachers to obtain the industry projects.
- 8. Plan the curriculum properly and pass the international authentication.
- 9. Merge the concept of engineering ethics into our courses.
- 10. Continue to Impetu English teaching and the international program to attarct foreign student to enter our department.
With thse efforts, we hope our department can pass the Engineering Technology Education International Certification to strengthen the international competitiveness of our students.
